All done. I made a point of saying I dont want improvements for swimmers and surfers. Its fine like it is, the worst thing we can get is money being spent on it. Next thing you know the pipes will be gone and we'll be banned from the car park."Kiting's fine, but it ain't windsurfing"

Tricky one really. It's quite hard to make representations in council-speak that don't make us sound like old curmudgeons who resent anyone else on the beach, and also don't just get up the noses of councils and planners, with their in-built love of 'development' and 'facilities'. Maybe the answer is to ask for benign improvements like 'landscaping' or some such (in the hopes that they don't interpret that as a request for a flower beds + water feature). Maybe the answer is to avoid council speak altogther and respond to the effect that it's a beach, and what it needs is access to it, dogshit removal, the occasional beach clean, and otherwise leaving alone.
Could we take them on a tour of Tiree to show them what a beach should be like, or would they just encourage their counterparts in Argyll and Bute to install parking meters, memorial benches, zoning etc?Eeeh 'tis grim dahn Sarf.

I've found councils like suggestions such as dog troughs, beachside taps/open showers etc. It is a visible sign they are doing something for the community and it costs them nothing. Invariable they will put the dog troughs next to the showers which will then be surrounded by the brown stuff for everyone to tread in.

Good tactic Phill. Also I like the idea of a beach shower/tap for rinsing sand and salt of mast bases and extensions.Eeeh 'tis grim dahn Sarf.

I asked for a shower to give them something to make them feel good about themselves. Also asked for carpark repairs and groyne repairs because they are already doing those and can tick the boxes with a satisfied smile on their faces."Kiting's fine, but it ain't windsurfing"
