The flood speed is pretty average for where I sail, except we have (often chaotic) waves too.
Over here the singles more or less dissapeared and are replaced by trifins and quads.
They sail higher upwind and you can sail and a bit bigger board (easier planing through the luls and keeping speed while riding.
But if you never wave ride, got a very stable wind and just do a bit of bump& jump...yeah singlefin might be your thing.
That said, sailed today with 3.4 fully powered with my 84l board in total control with 4 fins and had a blast riding over masthigh waves.
