No experience with the Sonic but I can vouch for the comments above re the Select Elliptical or S09. I use a 37cm S 09 on my Isonic 107 when conditions are rough and with a 6.4 . The fin really helps to keep things under control. I then use a 39cm S12 for 7/7.8 in less lumpy conditions. Although only 2cm difference, there is a big difference in lift and control.

For sure the Elliptical but I'd ask you guys to once again vote for the length 29 or 31cm based on what happened:
Went sailing again in light wind, so light that was planing only occasionally. Huge difference between L33 and D34 being that L33 was fun (but the wind was light) while D34 pain in the ass.
So because the difference is so huge do you guys still vote for 29cm?
Also I smashed L33 in steep water so now it's gone...
Q: what's the main difference in stance between slalom and wave board?
Q: at 73kg could 85-90L board be my big board (instead of 100L)?
Sorry I keep asking same question but I can't borrow and try one..cheers!

These are all questions you will probably answer for yourself by sailing more often, and getting a better feel.
Reading this, it's not really about the fins.
If you liked one fin then stick with that.
Now concentrate on driving the board, proactively.
Perhaps go down another route and get an accomplished sailor to comment on what you are doing.
Failing that, get someone to video what you are doing.
If you want to improve faster, then fast track your learning by booking onto a coached course or holiday.
There is a lot of technique stuff that is not best answered via the internet.

It's not really about the fins...it's about windsurfing!
Bought the S09 31cm works amazing!
