Car Hire and flights to Fuerte.
Hello all,
Its been 3 years since I have had a windsurfing holiday and I am planning a trip to Fuerte in June. Has anyone got any up-to-date info on which airlines take kit? Fly Thomas Cook are the cheapest I have found so far @ nearly £700 for two return flights with kit. Thats about £200 more than last time and it does not actually specify windsurfing kit without phoning them up...
Looked at others but they are more expensive and vague about carriage.
Car hire is the other issue. They seem reluctant to include roof racks and will not guarantee them.
There is two of us and we hope to take two boards three sails but will make do with one board if we have to.
Thanks in advance and bring on some low pressure and anything above 7degs!
Sam

Autoreisen and Cicar are the windsurfers favourites. Both supply racks. Both reliable and great service.
Thomas cook are favourite for carrying shed loads of kit

£90 return = 2boards+Quiver
My top tip for somewhere to stay is Lahares or Cotillo - to avoid the kids-adventure-playground-endless-shopping-mall-hell of Corralejo. Both Lahares and Cotillo are beautiful local towns. Low key but with plenty of bars etc.
In June you'll probably be swapping between Punta Blanca (NE) and Glass (N).

Last time I went to Fuerte Thomas Cook and Thomson both offered reasonable kit carriage and it was easy enough to get it booked on and confirmed back to me by email by getting in touch with the airline once the flight was booked through the cheapest available online seller. I got them to email me back a screenshot of the sports equipment booking stating 'a windsurfer' was a board bag and rig bag to avoid any hassle at either end, but the check-in people were very familiar with how it works and I had no problems with 2 x 23kg one-shot bags chock full of gear on my Thomson Flight for £45 return. Thomas Cook used to go to 30kg per bag but that may have changed since last year.
I was planning on taking 'one windsurfer' = board bag and rig bag, and 'one surfboard' = second windsurfing board, and they were charging the following for the 'mid-haul' flight to Feurte (didn't take the second board in the end, rented from Witchcraft instead):
I went with Thomson in the end as the flight and kit carriage worked out cheaper, but depends on what you can get the flight for.THOMSON THOMAS COOK Baggage £32 Baggage £32 Windsurfer £45 23 kg max per bag, 2 bags one windsurfer return £40 30kg max per bag, 2 bags Surf board £45 one surfboard return £40
Often good deals for flights via icelolly.com, eDreams, onthebeach, Thomson and Thomas Cook's own sites, as well as the usual Cheap Flights sites.
I hired a van like my one at home as was solo, so didn't need a roofrack, but HolidayAutos did me a pretty good deal.
Second Rod's vote for Lajares as a great place to stay, but pretty quiet compared to full-on Corralejo
Wanted: Cheap learner board for indoctrination

I hired a car via http://www.autosserapia.com/ 120€/p week with roofrack. Without deposit and no questions asked - I was explicitely allowed to return the car dirty (from the outside). The guy has cars specific for surfers.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply.
Booked our flights with Thomascookairlines.com. £370 each return with kit. Quite expensive but there are extras from the quoted price and they charge £70 for the kit, but they acknowledge the two bags as long as they are under 30kg.
Still waiting from the car hire side of things but they again give options for roof racks.
It better be windy cos the last two years have been classic Canaries I have heard.
