Hey Jem, Was watching your Winner to Wave Sailor dvd and want to understand the tips for sailing clew first when riding front side in cross onshore?

The reason I ask is that I have always struggled with the sail flapping violently when clew first for too long and have never figured out why this is. Like any of the pros, Lars makes clew first sailing when planning look really easy.

I suppose keeping the board speed up is also really important as this will dictate how much power is in the sail?

Appreciate any pointers.

WOW - so sorry for the late reply on this ..Keep your speed up by getting the rig forward and your body low with the rig on extended arms.
If youre clew if flapping then your back arm is not opening the sail enough so get it open and get your body to the inside of the turn ..

faster waterstarts / deeper beach starts
sailing in the straps planing and non planing
sailing one handed in the harness
really really nailing the tack
clew first beach starts

faster gybe approaches
first jumps
higher jumps

duck gybes
body drags
sailing 4 reaches planing with NO HARNESS : )

ride more waves in each session
one handed jumps
tack on inside and outside
go front side in cross on
one handed top turns
first forwards
higher forwards
cleaner forwards
Vertical jumps with a level off and float down from the top

Tip of the day - get way fitter than you are and keep on this, so you can sail for longer and get higher, faster and stronger!
AND Write your targeted moves on your hands eg, duck gybe on way in one hand, one handed jump / tack outside on other hand ... do it.
