Hi to everyone who's reading this!My very brief story I was a member of the WaterMark Gym in Cirencester, and got curious one day and had a look at the Windsurfing lake "Spinerd Sail Boards",I went into the shop that was on the edge of the lake, and was fascinated!I had always had a love of the water & surfing but never attempted anything! Well I walked out 20 mins later with my course of lessons booked!I got on very well and within 3 months purchased my own board ( HiFly 310/320-I think??) I absolutely loved the sport, anytime i had spare - would be at the lake,I met with some great people, and had many great times.Due to my career I sadly had to reduce my times on the water, this coinciding with Spinerd Sailboards closing led to my decision to buy my dream board-which was the F2 Comet, sadly I sold my HiFly and never got the comet & the years rolled by............I have really really missed Windsurfing. The last three years I have looked on ebay for boards etc but Im right out my depth now,and i fear purchasing the wrong equipment could be a huge mistake.I know there are wide boards,Stand Up Paddle boards.I live near Bristol,Where is the best place to go now?Maybe I should have some refresher lessons?I still kept going to the gym,and Im reasonably fit & well built, but yes Ill admit I do have a bit of excess weight! Im 6ft 2 and weigh 106KGs.What board would be a good place to start?Ive seen some on ebay, but they are either long boards, complete junk,or "sinkers"!(they would with me on them!).I cannot even remember the recommended weight per litre formulae.Any help would really really be gratefully received,I know everyones time is valuable!

This is my first post on this forum, so hi everybody!

I have been sailing for a very long time now (Laser II, Omega, Laser Pico, DZ, GP14, 470), but never tried windsurfing. Being quite a tall and heavy guy (~115 kg), I have problems choosing and locating a board for myself.

Would any of you be able to help me choose something?I'm looking for a cheap kit to learn on in Cardigan Bay, Aberystwyth and then i'm planning upgrading to something better when the Gods of finance smile at me again.

Appearance of the board, it's age, speed or any other similar factors do not matter. I just want something that I can launch off the beach and not need a car to tow. ;)

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Hi all

just wanted to check I won't be wasting my money on kit before I buy myself some new sails, I weigh 75 kg and sail on the south east coast, I'm thinking about buying a 6, 5.2 and 4.5. Would these sizes suit me from all conditions from force 3 and up? Would this be a good quiver for me?
Thanks for any help :)

So, I have read most the posts relating to beginners on this forum and see that there seems to be two sets of opinions regarding board size for beginners.....
Get a boat and learn the easy way or get a plank and do it tough.

I have my first 1:1 lesson booked this week and the instructor will be bringing a boat :( rigged for 10 knot winds. Needless to say, I am very excited! Being dreaming of being out there on the water and fear that I may be trying to run before I can crawl. I want to book another 3hr session for later in the week and then buy my first board and gear. I have been checking Fleabay, and can’t see myself buying anything secondhand.

So, I have been invited to come along for the demo this weekend by the nice people at my local water sport shop.

Ok, so, last week I bought some gear which included a full wetsuit, buoyancy aid and other watersport warm gear. Happy so far....
I have been reading up on boards and really feel that I would like to get the correct board  and kit next week. - Not keen at all about buying a boat
:(
, hence the extra 1:1 lesson.

I am 73Kg, pretty fit for my age - sort of 50 mile bike ride, 2hr swim, weight training etc, is no problem type - but the problem is that I have never being on a board of any kind before (not even a skate board).

So, here is what I am thinking.....
1. Do a couple of 1:1 3hr lessons with an instructor this week.
2. Go to the demo day this weekend and try out some gear.
3. Buy my first rig next week.
4. Practice everyday until I get it.

Any opinions on the kit I should be looking at with a budget of 1.4k to 1.5k?

Hey everyone :), i just wondered if anyone could clear up a few questions that have got about windsurfing.
I decided to give it a go for those long periods when its flat and there is no surf in the summer (as im primarily a surfer on a 6'4 board).

Im a begginer to it all, so i need to learn all i can about what sails to use and when etc.
Ive got a decent 8'4 board with three sails , 4' 5' and 6 foot.
The problem is, I need to acquire a mast, foot and fin. Bit of a green horn here, but i take it the attachments for the fins etc differ on boards? And what size mast should i get (length)

Also, is there any places in and around newquay or surrounding area in cornwall that supply windsurfing gear, because i can not think of any at all of the top of my head.
What are the best wind conditions and direction?

And last but not least, does anyone know any good spots to go and practice, where i won't be getting in the way of surfers ( i'e lakes, windsurfing friendly beaches)

sorry for all the questions, like i said, i have a lot to learn.

cheers now!
