Just noticed the sail I used yesterday is thirteen years old. It`s a Naish Nalu 5.0 metre. It doesn`t seem to have "bagged out" and isn`t ripped or damaged anywhere. Anyway, I got drilled a couple of times, the boatclub anemometer was giving 18-28 kts but out on the water it was a lot stronger, and I was out of control. The boom was ripped out of my hands three times when trying to set off from the sand bar. Back home the historic data had recorded gusts of 45kts. So, would any sail have coped with this sort of wind ? I`m thinking of an Ezzy Cheetah in particular. Or is the Nalu ok still and performing as well as a more modern sail?

Something that comes up a lot on here are bend curve discussions w.r.t. compatibility to sails - worthy of discussion in its own right?

Specifically I'm suggesting we talk about wave sails.

Lets start by defining what it is, why its important, how it is measured, the current trends (normal bend curve), variability (range), reasons for having different bend curves and finally look at some examples of issues.

And I'm hoping that Basher will be good enough to provide us all with images of his recent (and expensive) mast/sail miss match experienced by way of an 'example'.

Dive in.... the water is lovely and warm...

Hi all,

I have just bought a 2011 jp all ride 106 (full wood sandwich) for £550 but am a little worried about a noticeable soft spot on the deck between the straps.

My question is whether it is normal to have any visible depression? This area is certainly softer than the rest of the board which are fairly rock solid. When I press with my thumb or foot it feels squishy.

I will post a video of this but I would be grateful of advice. This is shop bought (Internet purchase) so can send back but what a pain.

Just worried what it will be like in 5+ years if soft now.

cheers,

Hi

I´m wondering about my quiver. Now I have Ezzy 4.5 se 5,0 Goya w3d and a 5.5 Ezzy panther 3 (+smaller sails) and rigged on a 400 mast. I was going to get 430 for my 5.5 sail but started thinking if I would be better off by selling the goya + 5.5 panther and get an Ezzy elite 5.3 and then be able to skip the 430 mast.

So what do you guys think, 4.5 -5.3 gap too much? -and what do you think about the low end difference between the 5.3 elite and 5.5 panther. Will I be getting up and going at similar windspeed? Bit confused in all this since i thend to use the 5.0 quite much.

Had a lucky escape yesterday - broke mast base (see picture). Big catapult wrenched the joint out of the base -looks like the metal lip may have sheared on the bottom joint. Fortunately was only 200m out with an on shore wind - could have been a lot worse. Base a Pro-limit version - 2yrs old. been checking the boge joint which was fine so didn't expect this to happen. Will buy a new Chinook base which seems to be recommended on other threads. I`m an intermediate mainly doing flat water freeride sailing about 20-30x per year. Was wondering if to get a boge joint or tendon? From previous threads opinion seemed about even - anyone got any new info on which is better for my type of sailing? Any input would be great.

Hello guys, I just bought my first cammed sail -- an used Pyro 3D 7.0 NS, have no idea the year -- but I'm not sure if this is really a cammed sail, and if it is one, I am not sure if the cambers are there, or if they are missing! As I said before it is my first sail with cambers, and I bought it on eBay, so I have no idea how to rig it with those things (they really don't look like a camber by what I've seen on the net)

Maybe I'm having trouble with the rig cause I'm using a mast with different curvature than that recommended by the sail, maybe not. I am using a Severne 460 IMSC 25, I will put some pictures here to show you guys the "cams" in the sail. Could you guys help me with it? Would it really be a camber?
