Booked to head out to Palekastro with GetWindsurfing 29th July - 9th August and starting to think about what kit to take. Has anyone been out there around then? Hearing mixed reports of how strong the wind is. At the moment planning on taking 90lt Freestyle for myself (69kg) and 100lt FSW for the Mrs (58kg) who's learning to jibe. Sail size is the main issue, we share a quiver 5.7, 5.0, 4.5, 4.0. Is it regularly strong enough out there to want a 3.5 and leave the 5.7 and 430 mast at home?

Need some inspiration for a late september getaway.

Had been considering Mauritius but may be a bit too pricey as have a few other commitments this year too. Greeece is out as we've sort of done it to death recently. Was toying with idea of Sicily, but can't find a vast amount of info on windsurfing there (any experience of San Vito Lo Capo from a windy point of view would be interesting).

Looking for somewhere a non windsurfing wife would enjoy, so Moulay, El Tur etc are out. Decent quality hotel and a tad cheaper than the 2k per person that Mauritius was coming in at. Jeri maybe? Or is that going to be a similar kind of price?

All thoughts appreciated.

Hey Guys,

Was looking into windsurf trip this summer. I wanted to travel by car from Italy so I could take my kit with me including a kite (11m) for low breeze. The main hotspots ATM are Tarifa or Greece. Portugal would also be nice but not so windy apparently. Also been to Tarifa already so looking more into the Greek option now.

The closest spots from Italy in Greece are on the island of Lefkada but I am unsure how the wind is down there as is a thermal and not the meltemi gradient. Definetly a windy place but windy enough? I like kiting too but windsurf is my aim. Anyone been there? If so is Vassiliki or Milos better? Otherwise worth takin the ferry all the way to Crete or Naxos/Paros?

Thanks

Following on from a conversation within HWIFY with tim319 (and this this thread a bit of a question directed your way if you don't mind).

I will probably be back in Aldeburgh next year and will bring a board for using on the river (found a house with parking & garden). What's the best launching spot please? I reckon the best option is parking before the Martello tower and carrying kit to the water's edge, south of the club's boat park.

It looks possible to park before the club and carry kit 100 metres along the levee to the river bend, but that does look a bit of hassle.

Presumably there are no launching / access restrictions on the riverbank? I thought I'd get this straight whilst still fresh in my head.

Cheers,

Quick question - any help appreciated.

Has anyone on here been to Peligoni Club in Zakynthos? If so, just wondering what your opinions were - area, windsurfing, other - any info really.

The wife and I are looking to head somewhere in mid June for a relaxing holiday with windsurfing. Not a hardcore windy holiday, but there does need to be something. Maybe a bit of pampering as well...Peligoni Club seems to fit the bill on paper but as we have no experience of this corner of Greece I'd thought I'd ask.

Thanks in advance. :)

Where to stay in the van (South Coast)

Some of you kind people helped out with pointers for a South Coast newbie (me) as to where to sail in a given wind direction...

Some of you kind people helped out with pointers for a South Coast newbie (me) as to where to sail in a given wind direction.

The other challenge I'm finding for medium distance road trips is where to stay, in the van, when I get there. The South Coast seems a fairly crowded, regulated sort of place, so finding somewhere suitable to park up in the van overnight appears to be a bit of a challenge. Any tips for good overnighting locations near the main sailing venues would therefore be very welcome.

I suspect this will generally mean campsites, as most public locations seem to control overnight parking and those that don't may be subject to unwanted nuisances, be it drunks, boy racers, 'courting couples' (or, ahem 'late night dog walkers') or whatever, or upset the local residents. Oh, and of course the risk of being mistaken for a member of the traveling community, delightful and honest as I'm sure most of them are. Good tips for public overnighting areas still welcome though.

As regards campsites, whilst it's easy enough to find a list of them, it's much harder to find windsurf van friendly ones. As far as I am concerned, the fewer facilities the better. A field with a bog block / showers is perfect. Good pub within walking distance essential. Points deducted for caravans, children, games rooms, other humans etc.

Anyone got any favourite locations they would care to disclose (either in public forum or by private message)?

Just finishing up a great week here at Le Morne, the Indian Resort not the best spot if you want to stay in touch tney just got their internet finally fixed today, but hey we aint here for the internet.
its been windy all week, blowing from the high teens to the high twenties and low thirties even yesterday.
Good combination of flat water inshore to double mast high if you venture to the outer reef or dare to take on the 'One Eye' which this time i passed on, it was mental.
Even the reform on the inner reefs was four to five foot at times, so there' s good stuff to practise wave technique on.
Plenty of room for kites (which are in the mJority these days being more practical for travel and with a wider wind range)and windsurfers and everyone respects each other as far as i could tell.
last time i was here my hotel was nearer the one eye break which from where we were based was some way downwind, but there are so many sailing areas with reefs and flat inshore it doesnt reall make much difference where you launch fron.
definitely worth a trip and their windy season just started and will continue until september, its winter here now, not that youd know it.

Youll have to excuse the crap spelling its tablet. With a slow connection so difficult to correct maybe when i get back ill edit in a little map they have here, its on my facebook page amongst the abuse somewhere.

Is anyone else going to be in the region?
Anyone know of any other beaches between the 2 that are not full on reef breaks as I guess I'll be sailing alone quite often, with the missus watching.
Also possible shops for windsurf breakages?

Hi Guys

I'm looking for some recomendations on where to go on holiday this year. I've been to Dahab before & loved it but that was as a single man. This time there will be 5 of us. Me (a reasonable average windsurfer, planing, straps, can waterstart if conditions are right etc.) my better half, who wants sun & other activities but is up for giving windsurfing a go 2 teenage kids 17/15 (one wants to learn windsurfing the other wants to learn kitesurfing) & a 8 month old baby (who dosn't know it yet but will want to learn windsurfing in a few years)

I know Dahab is ideal for me & my 2 teenagers however I don't remember how baby freindly it was, due to being distracted with the awsome conditions.

So I guess in summary could you folks shed light on the family side of dahab or recomend another location thats as great for a mixed interest family with a rug-rat.

thanks.
