Please help me

I would really like to learn the shaka. Can you please tell me how to initiate the move. Once airborne I think that I can easily finish the move because I can do the flaka.

This is my non-functional plan :-D

When trying the move I try to go a little downwind in order to get speed and ease the coming upwind carve by reducing the pressure in the sail. I spot a chop and open the before carving. I try to carve using only the front foot. I try to lean forward and carve on the heel. I think if ragging the rig backwards. Once I hit the chop I try to pull with the backhand and push with the fronthand. The outcome is either a too slow carve or something which resembles a failed shove-it spock. Please help.

Hello, I am just looking for a bit of advice. I am starting to learn freestyle, I have been to dahab before and learnt to Vulcan but have not really done any in the uk. What size board would you recommend for me? I am 75kg and will be using sails 5.7 5.0 and 4.5. I was thinking about a 100l board or a 90l board. Also what board would you recommend? I have looked at a few reviews and the rrd twintip and the tabou freestyle seems to be good, I will be looking for a second hand board. Thanks

After three days of no wind it came back today, still a bit light but us pie eaters were out with 7.0's on freewaves, the slalom boys were ridiculous as normal and the freestyle guys turned up!

We had Tonki and Sarah back from Podersdorf, One other PWA guy I didn't recognise, two red Bull youngsters on a Fanatic photoshoot, ex world tour regular Anxton and future Fanatic star 12 years old Noah Voecker .

It would be good if I could identify what the hell they were doing however it ended up a load of us just sitting in the water watching the show. It is incredible what these bendy youngsters can do!

It is an education to be here watching this and some people still tell me that Costa Teguise is rubbish. They need to get out here and see what its like nowadays!

Windy tomorrow, at 110kg I am expecting to be out on 5.3 and the temperatures are due to be in the 28's. Costa is naff eh? If you still think that we are very happy that you stay away.

Getting weight forward in chop?

Does anyone else struggle to make spocks etc when the water isn't flat?

I find on flat water I can get my weight forward and my spocks attempts are much more likely to suceed. In chop I end up not able to get the weight far enough forward and either get thrown out of the backdoor, or end up just doing a vulcan.

I find I only make spocks if I can get my weight as far forward as possible, and I just can't seem to get into that position if the water is choppy. Anyone got any tips?

Hi guys,

Thought I'd get your tips on vulcans and use this thread as a way to track my progress. So far I've conquered these stages of my vulcan journey

Buy freestyle board

Learn to sail freestyle board without spinning out all the time (big inboard straps and small fin, 20cm)

Learn to pop (a lot of improvement still needed here but I can clear the fin fairly consistently)

Pop and get around to 90 degrees.

So at the moment I can pop the board and I seem to get around to about 90 degrees then the fin/rail catches and a big splash follows (which I've read is a common part of the learning curve). I'm actually pretty pleased with getting this far after only a couple of attempts.

You'll notice on the video that in the first clip I somehow forgot to let go of the boom! The second attempts is about as good as it gets at the moment, pop, turn 90-100 degrees, splash. I was a bit underpowered and the water was very shallow which wasn't helping my confidence!

It feels like at the moment I have 2 issues:

1. Not enough height on pop

2 . Not enough rotation. How can I get more of a whip and get that extra 20 or 30 degrees I need to get round and start sliding?

Video here (thanks to phil from getwindsurfing.com for filming):
