It's true, he's out shopping for Veet, razors, moisturiser and lycra as we speak. He's now officially an Old Fart In Lycra. Apparently Wilier make kids bikes now, either that or he's got a suitable box to stand on to throw his leg over and he's road biked up :)

The conditions today in Ireland are looking sunny and windless, the perfect conditions for a final day on the Emerald isle as we have now completed all competition. There will be no more competition for any fleet and the final prize giving will take place at 12noon today.
We would like to make an amendment to the results and ticker from yesterday, in the amateur fleet it was Niall Mellon that beat Jonny Price to advance through and take third position. Apologies for this, especially to Niall!
Congratulations to all the sailors, organisers and judges for a very long day at the beach. It was very impressive to be part of a smoothly run but very busy day of competition, getting a double elimination in for every fleet on one day is no easy task!

Was going to try to sail a wave spot that i´m keen on giving a go, forecast really good for a break that i spotted recently (pic attached) that has not been sailed yet. I couldn´t find any company for that and not too keen on giving it a go on a solo mission.

-So things not looking too good since forecast was not windy for anything else close by. Decided to check out a freestyle spot in Reykjavík that has a sort off tunnel effect going on and tends to be windier than anything else. was in luck, forecasted 4knots delivered well powered up 5.0 conditions and super flat water. Was trying to land spocks, long slides, looking over shoulder, front arm straight, no pushing with back hand (all stuff i´ve been fuc## up) and came close but still not able to finish that damn last flip of the sail!

Good session, but man that trick is giving me a hard time! -think i have to film it to see what i´m doing wrong and get some tips..

As I understand it, this will lead to more extremes of weather rather than our average temperature going up a degree or two.
Now I've noticed for some time some extremes of wet, cold and general miserableness, but what's happened to the hot, sunny extremes? Nothing for coming up two years in my reckoning (sep/oct 2011?).
Around these parts, every month so far this year has been below its average temperature.

my apologies to Graeme for ripping off his idea from the parallel universe, but I thought it was good, so I worked up a windsurfing equivalent:

A is for Air, something that happens when you hit a ramp. You are supposed to enjoy this.

B is for Basher, he is the light.

C is of centreboard, no-one uses them anymore, except novices and hippies

D is for downhaul, whack it on as hard as you can and then find someone like JK to put a bit more on for you

E is entertainment, refer to B & G

F is for fish. A board shape to make you look different from the other mush botherers in Worthing

G is for Grumpf, he is the light.

H is for H2O. Essential ingredient- ideally at the coast.

I is for Inland, only practice Inland when you absolutely have to or its too windy to go dinghy sailing.

J is jumping. Don't land it flat. Refer to R

K is for kinetics. According to ISAF president Paul Henderson this is BAD, we suggest that pumping like **** is far better than bogging.

L is light. Light board, Light mast, Light Boom- generally perceived as good, however excessive use of carbon can have a negative effect on your wallet. Lobster starts with 'L' too.

M is for Masterclass. Pimp for Peter Hart- legend.

N is for /Vico, and we're still trying to figure out 'why'? N will be for N-aomi in due course.

O is for Oxygen, something you will miss in a hold down.

P is for Prasonisi, one day, maybe…

Q is for Quantitative Easing. Something worth discussing when there's been a glut of no wind.

R is for Rod, for advanced advice in looping, removing banner advertising and water starting in **** all wind when you should probably have not bothered launching/driving for 3 hours.

S is for Starboard. They invented Windsurfing and everyone hates them for it.

T is for Toe In. It's important, especially on continental lakes.

U is for UJ. A universal joint. Replace annually/bi-annually and always buy Chinook

V is for Volume. Volume is good or volume is bad depending on who you talk to. (Be wary of claims of 'artificial volume', this is neither good, nor bad as it doesn't exist. All you get is a board too wide to deal with chop.)

W is for Witchcraft. They re-invented windsurfing and everyone loves them for it.

X is for X-ray. Windsurf for long enough and you can expect to get a reasonable return on your NHS contribution.

Y is for yellow. Yellow is the description of someone not committing to their harness.

Z is for Z-Ride. This is an old RRD board, a rare treasure if you're on a very limited budget.

Just an update for all Corky has a new bar in Corralejo Fueteventura its in Avda.Grandes Playa near the Atlantis Bahia Real Hotel also the rear of the property its contained in the Mar Adentro apts is right on top of rocky point good waves an also suping when there is no wind, this is all located on the outskirts of the town on the way to flag beach.
Vast improvement as there are restaurant facilities see pic breakfast snacks etc and as usual lots of wind and wave info on tap many local sailors and kiters dropping in to glean info from, numerous trophies hanging up in the bar including A sail from our own Andy Funnel (god bless him ) hanging up in pride of place right next to one of Bjorns .
Well worth a visit or two if only for the inexpensive food and drink ( its ok Cork does not do the cooking)<img src="http://forums.boards.mpora.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8112&d=1369301664&thumb=1" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

Just noticed the sail I used yesterday is thirteen years old. It`s a Naish Nalu 5.0 metre. It doesn`t seem to have "bagged out" and isn`t ripped or damaged anywhere. Anyway, I got drilled a couple of times, the boatclub anemometer was giving 18-28 kts but out on the water it was a lot stronger, and I was out of control. The boom was ripped out of my hands three times when trying to set off from the sand bar. Back home the historic data had recorded gusts of 45kts. So, would any sail have coped with this sort of wind ? I`m thinking of an Ezzy Cheetah in particular. Or is the Nalu ok still and performing as well as a more modern sail?

Something that comes up a lot on here are bend curve discussions w.r.t. compatibility to sails - worthy of discussion in its own right?

Specifically I'm suggesting we talk about wave sails.

Lets start by defining what it is, why its important, how it is measured, the current trends (normal bend curve), variability (range), reasons for having different bend curves and finally look at some examples of issues.

And I'm hoping that Basher will be good enough to provide us all with images of his recent (and expensive) mast/sail miss match experienced by way of an 'example'.

Dive in.... the water is lovely and warm...

It’s an early start today with a briefing at 8.30am and first possible start at 9am. Many sailors are already down the beach preparing for a full day on the water, with strong winds (approx 20 knots) and enough swell predicted it could be a busy day on the water for all fleets.
Boards will be following all the action very closely, with live ticker and images coming live from the beach through the day.
